If there’s one surefire way to garner attention these days in the sports world, it’s by making any kind of reference to “Game of Thrones.” And the Pittsburgh Pirates have come up with a brilliant way to pay homage to the HBO smash series by mimicking its celebrated episode opening with its majestic theme song to introduce the team’s starting lineup.

The Pirates rolled out the GOT-inspired player introduction video during Tuesday’s game against the New York Mets at PNC Park.

In a word, fantastic. Suffice to say, the Pirates’ favorite “Game of Thrones character has to be Salladhor Saan, right?

It merits noting, though, that Washington Nationals slugger Jayson Werth led the way in somewhat this capacity over three years ago.

Obviously, this isn’t the first time a sports team has utilized something awesome from “Game of Thrones” in some way, shape or form. And it certainly won’t be the last. But what we do know now is that the Pirates might just be Andrew Luck’s favorite MLB team after unveiling that spectacular video.
