Cavaliers use Justin Bieber, Drake to distract Raptors during FTs (pics)
It quickly became quite clear the Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t need any outside help or shenanigans on Wednesday night to utterly dismantle the Toronto Raptors in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The game was practically over as soon as it started with the home team taking a 3-2 series edge courtesy of a 116-78 throttling of the Raptors.
But the wisenheimers in charge of running Quicken Loans Arena’s Jumbotron used some Canadian-based chicanery as a means to get the boo birds chirping while Raptors players shot their free throws during the game.
According to photos posted to Twitter by ESPN’s Adam Reisinger, images of Canadian pop culture icons Justin Bieber and Drake — the latter being the Raptors’ global ambassador — were shown on the Jumbotron, which not surprisingly elicited a negative response from the Cavaliers faithful inside The Q.
Drake of course has fostered a reputation of being a real thorn in the side of opposing players and teams when they pay a visit to Air Canada Centre (here and here). The hip hop artist evidently isn’t afraid to talk trash on social media after Raptors victories, as evidenced by his conduct following Toronto’s Game 4 win earlier this week.
In other words, let’s chalk up the big boo board antics on Wednesday night as some kind of payback for Drake’s trolling ways.
In the end, boredom born of a blowout win left the Jumbotron operators to come up with clever ways to pass the time.
Good to know. Good to know. Especially after concern arose in Cleveland that the pop star may have cursed the Cavs earlier in the playoffs.
