Janoris Jenkins: Having five kids with four women ‘a blessing’
New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins was downright defiant regarding any potential criticism directed his way over how at 27 years old he has five children with four different women.
“It ain’t a lot,” Jenkins told the New York Post. “It’s just five kids. A lot is something you can’t handle, and I can handle five kids.”
The five children, three boys and two girls, range in the age from two to eight and all live in Florida. He says he visits all of them as often as he can during the season.
Jenkins already had four children with three women before he was drafted by the then-St. Louis Rams in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Jenkins, who signed a five-year, $62.5 million deal with the Giants — $29 million of that guaranteed — scoffed at the notion that he cannot be a good father given his unique circumstances.
“Have you ever heard anything about my baby mamas?” he said. “Have you ever seen my baby mamas come out and say, ‘Oh, he’s not being a father?’ When they were going with me, they understand, ‘OK, he’s a football player. He’s gonna have multiple women.’ That just comes with dating a football player.”
In fact, Jenkins believes he’s very fortunate with how things have played out in his unconventional familial life.
“It’s a blessing to me,” Jenkins said. “Because you got to look at it, I got five kids. I’ll be there for five kids. I can take care of five kids. I could see if I wasn’t able to be there, I wasn’t able to be around, hang out with ’em or nothing, then it would be a problem, but I don’t have those type of problems.”
Jenkins insists all five mothers are taken care of well, and that he takes care of all his child support obligations. He adds that the mothers of his children don’t try to take him to the cleaners so the financial arrangements are stable and cordial. His attorney backed Jenkins up on that notion.
“Janoris is a great young man and has done everything we have asked him to do since he has become a client,” said Adam B. Kenner, Esq.
Jenkins isn’t close to matching former New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie as it relates to having multiple children with multiple women — 12 children with eight different women — but he’s well on his way.
