Every punch-out pitch from Max Scherzer’s record-tying 20 Ks (vids)

Max Scherzer wrote his name in Major League Baseball’s record books by striking out 20 batters in the Washington Nationals’ 3-2 win over the pitcher’s former team, the Detroit Tigers.

Scherzer joins some pretty heady company as the only other pitchers to strike out 20 batters in a game are Roger Clemens and Kerry Wood.

“That’s some serious company. It won’t sink in right now,” Scherzer said, via The Washington Post. “But it’s an amazing accomplishment, especially to be able to get the win tonight. This will be the only time I’ll talk about giving up two home runs and have this big a smile on my face.”

Another interesting historical tidbit:

And this is how Scherzer celebrated his historic pitching night:

After the game, Scherzer replied to a congratulatory tweet from none other than Kerry Wood.

He also posted this comment:

Finally, Scherzer summarized his utterly fantastic performance with the following quote:

Indeed, Max Scherzer. Indeed.
