Yasiel Puig replies to old Jared Goff rip with #PuigYourFriend tweet

Jared Goff admits since being drafted with the first-overall by the Los Angeles Rams that he’s “gotten a lot of grief” for being a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan. But even Los Angeles Dodgers star Yasiel Puig is apparently willing to let bygones be bygones and welcome Goff into the La La Land fold, even going so far as to forgive the Rams rookie quarterback for a critical tweet about him from 2013.

The tweet in question had Goff — who is a native of Novato, Calif., just outside of San Francisco — hoping for pain to be inflicted upon the Dodgers slugger after he did one of his patented bat flips and slid into home plate after hitting a walk-off home run.

Puig somehow tracked down Goff’s tweet from the summer of 2013 and issued the following friendly response.

Even though he’s been a Giants fan all his life, Goff conceded it isn’t out of the question that he could take a provincial liking to his new hometown’s baseball team.

“We’ll see,” he said, via ESPN. “That’s what I just told the fans, I said we’ll see. It’s going to be kind of a growing process, we’ll see what happens. I’m open. I’m not going to shut it down.”

While fans in Los Angeles obviously won’t like the fact that Goff is a dyed-in-the-wool Giants fan — especially in light of the bitter rivalry that exists between his longtime favorite team and the Dodgers — odds are the young quarterback would be quickly forgiven by living up to the expectations of being the first player selected in an NFL Draft.
