Bags of air from Kobe Bryant’s last game generated absurd bids on eBay

Die-hard fans of Kobe Bryant will be going to great lengths and apparently are open to spending vast sums of money to procure a keepsake from the Los Angeles Lakers icon’s final NBA game last week.

So much so, it seems, that at least one fan was compelled to bid thousands of dollars on eBay for a truly unique piece of memorabilia from Bryant’s pro basketball farewell at Staples Center last Wednesday.

A bag of air.

Los Angeles’ ABC-7 reports that the absurd item, dubbed “Kobe Bryant’s final career basketball game air for sale, has since been pulled from eBay, but not before one extremely motivated — and obviously quite gullible — individual bid a whopping $15,000 on the … empty plastic bag.

Evidence was posted to Twitter of a bid in the sum of $13,600.

This kind of development helps explain in part why $2 million was spent on Bryant retirement memorabilia in one day alone last week. The fact that the Lakers were selling gold-studded Bryant hats for $38,000 also helps in this regard.

But that’s not all on the ridiculous memorabilia front related to Bryant’s retirement. Another listing on eBay similarly was trying to sell of bag of air from Kobe’s final game. The listing is for “Details about Kobe Bryant Last Game Used Air Autograph Bag 60pts.”

The description of the “one-of-a-kind” item.

Unfortunately, the “listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.” But not before receiving a bid of $4,599.99 Sunday night.

What a world.
