Brooks Orpik extracts tooth with towel during Caps win (vids)
In Installment No. Infinity to “Hockey Players Are The Toughest Athletes On The Planet (And Also The Most Dentally Challenged), Brooks Orpik was captured on camera during the Washington Capitals’ 2-0 Game 1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers extracting his own busted-up tooth.
The cause of the improvised, emergency oral surgery was prompted by the defenseman getting caught up high by the stick of Flyers center Sam Gagner.
Once Orpik returned to the bench, he grabbed the oft-used dentistry appliance standby — a towel — and proceeded to yank out his tooth, or what was left of it.
Hey, it’s better than getting hit by a beer cup. Probably.
Suffice to say, Orpik didn’t miss a shift. Shocker.
