On a day loaded with compelling story lines and drama, it’s no surprise that Kobe Bryant’s final NBA game ruled over them all. And the Los Angeles Lakers iconic superstar went out in quintessential Kobe-like manner: Scoring 60 points while jacking up a whopping 50 shots to send the Lakers off into the offseason with a 101-96 victory over the Utah Jazz for only the team’s 17th victory.
Before Bryant even took the court, the accolades and tributes were pouring in from every corner of the sports world and elsewhere. Several prominent stars from Major League Baseball did their part to celebrate Bryant’s final NBA game, including Mike Trout, Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp, who all used some of their pregame gear to pay tribute to the retiring superstar on what was being referred to as “Mamba Day.”

All fitting tributes, to be sure. And a fitting reminder that Bryant may be hanging up his sneakers for good, but he will never be forgotten.
