Addison Russell nearly drills D-Backs mascot with flying bat (vid)
D. Baxter the Bobcat, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ augustly named mascot, probably saw his mascot life flash in front of his eyes when Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell lost grip of his bat, sending it flying into the stands.
D. Baxter just so happened to be in the Chase Field stands at the time — presumably engaging in some kind of mascot-related antics of some sort — right in the vicinity of Russell’s helicoptering bat.

Suffice to say, D. Baxter the Bobcat was none too pleased about the close call, as he snatched the bat out of the clutches of a fan and proceeded to engage in infuriated histrionics, making a threat to throw the bat back on the field before pretending to break the bat over his knee a couple of times in a demonstrative display.
Thankfully, he regained his composure enough to relinquish the bat — without throwing it — and give it to a fan.
Still, it warrants mentioning: Don’t make D. Baxter the Bobcat angry. You won’t like him when he’s angry.
