Rays prospect rips Bryce Harper for ‘Make Baseball Fun Again’ hat

Bryce Harper doubled-down on his now-infamous contention during spring training that baseball is a “tired” sport by wearing a hat after the Washington Nationals’ Opening Day win over the Atlanta Braves that featured the message, “Make Baseball Fun Again.”

Brent Honeywell, a pitching prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays minor league system, took Harper to task on Twitter, specifically the decision to wear said hat — clearly inspired by Donald Trump’s candidacy catchphrase — given the Nationals slugger’s esteemed big league status.

Honeywell then utilized a famous Harper catchphrase to chastise the slugger.

Finally, Honeywell asserted Harper should be more humble given how lucky he is to put on a big league uniform.

Honeywell isn’t the first person from the baseball world to rip Harper for his opinions on the game. Goose Gossage — whose inflammatory views of the current state of baseball were the talk of spring training — said Harper has “no respect” for the game.

Whether one agrees with Harper’s contention that baseball needs to be livened up or not, one thing is certain: He has initiated a dialogue concerning the state of the game.
