Lions thank Calvin Johnson, he thanks … pizza delivery guy? (pic)
The Detroit Lions paid tribute to one of the best players ever to don the team’s jersey by taking out a full-page ad in Sunday’s edition of theDetroit Free Press to thank Calvin Johnson for his many contributions to the organization during his stellar nine-year NFL career after the wide receiver announced his retirement last week.
Johnson, meanwhile, took to social media to thank … his pizza delivery driver?
The Lions and their fans are of course left disappointed by having another one of team’s all-time greats hang up their cleats earlier than expected. But that doesn’t mean the organization doesn’t appreciate everything Johnson has accomplished both on and off the field, as evidenced by the ad in which the team simply states, “Thank you, Calvin.”

Johnson, meanwhile, had pizza on the brain Sunday, as he apparently ordered some delivery to celebrate his retirement. And he later took to Instagram to commemorate the indulgence.
“Thanks to my delivery guy and @pizzahut for the retirement pizza,” Johnson wrote.
Johnson has never been the most prolific of sorts on social media, and he hasn’t been posting much of anything at all for some time now before taking to Instagram to celebrate some pizza and other assorted goodies.
As noted by ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, has not had one retweet in 69 days, nor has he posted any of his own thoughts in 140 days. As far as Instagram is concerned, his last post came 25 weeks ago.
In other words, given that it took pizza and a couple of sides to compel Johnson’s return to social media, it could be argued that the way to the recently retired NFL great’s heart is through his stomach.
