Gary Kubiak on Peyton Manning making decision: ‘No hurry’

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak indicated that despite the issues Peyton Manning’s hesitance in making a decision on his future is causing the organization, the team is sticking with its stated approach to the situation and not pressuring the quarterback to inform them of his plans.

“There’s no hurry here,” Kubiak said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine, via Pro Football Talk. “Nothing has changed. . . . We’re going to let him take his time.”

The head coach’s comments come on the heels of the news that the Broncos reportedly “will do everything they possibly can” to ensure that Brock Osweiler hits the free agent market in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, when Kubiak discussed Osweiler, he stated the young quarterback has a “bright future” and ” did a heck of a job for us” when he replaced Manning in seven games.

“Obviously we think the world of him and want him to be a part of our football team,” he added, via “We’ve got a lot of guys that are free (agents) like that. He’s been really special with the job he’s done this year and I think he’s grown a great deal.”

The Broncos reportedly expect to meet with Osweiler’s agent this week at the Combine, but everything obviously will remain in limbo regardless of any progress made until Manning’s situation is officially resolved.

Manning technically has until March 9 to declare whether he plans to retire or play in 2016 as that date marks the official start of the new league year. But if he is still on the Broncos roster on that date, his $19 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed. Osweiler stated earlier this month that he hopes to remain part of “a very special group” with the Broncos.
But it’s all too clear that until Manning — whom the Broncos reportedly are wary of bringing back “at any price”– informs the team of his decision, the organization’s hands are tied in an “official” sense. But that doesn’t mean the team already has decided what it intends to do regardless of Manning envisions his NFL future.
