The New York Yankees are embarking upon its 2015 Major League Baseball regular season campaign by issuing a stern warning that funny business, lackadaisical nonsense and any kind of tomfoolery are strictly forbidden within the walls of its spring training clubhouse. Instead, motivational signs preaching positivity and stick-to-it-iveness and other new age buzzwords are the name of the game.

A sign has been posted on the door to their spring training clubhouse at George M. Steinbrenner Field that purports to be a pep-talk of sorts and warns that “Motivated Professionals Only” will be granted access to its interior.

The sign reads:

By entering here, you agree to give 100% of what you have

There are no excuses.

Everyday, every moment, is an opportunity to excel, to be more, to achieve your best.

Do not squander your time by going through the motions

Train hard and get results.

At the end of the day, look in the mirror and ask yourself if you gave it your all.

If you don’t have that level of commitment, don’t waste your time or ours.

According to what GM Brian Cashman had to say, this sign probably wasn’t explicitly meant for one Alex Rodriguez. Maybe.

Perhaps recognizing that the both the message and the sign itself likely would become the subjects of scorn, mock and ridicule — especially given the snarky nature of the Internet — the sign reportedly was taken down some time later.

Perhaps that was for the best.
