Kobe Bryant again tweets shout-out to Gophers’ Rachel Banham

For the second time in a week, the world of women’s college basketball has captured the attention of Kobe Bryant, specifically the out-of-this-world play by Minnesota Golden Gophers superstar Rachel Banham.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend took to Twitter on Monday night to sing the praises of how the senior guard drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lift Minnesota over the Iowa Hawkeyes by a score of 78-76.

And the clutch shot that impressed the Black Mamba:

All told, Banham finished with 35 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the border battle victory over Iowa.

Banham originally got on Bryant’s radar when she tied the NCAA record by scoring 60 points in a 112-106, double-overtime win over the Northwestern Wildcats last week, making 19 of 32 shots — 8-of-15 from 3-point range — while draining 14 of 16 free throws.

The Lakers superstar similarly took to Twitter after Banham’s historic night to congratulate her on the remarkable feat.

“I was literally shaking. I thought I was going to start crying, I was so happy,” Banham said about seeing the social media shout-out from Bryant. “I didn’t even know what to say. I was freaking out. I couldn’t even tweet back right away, because I didn’t want to say anything dumb and be embarrassing. So I left myself calm down. I was really happy.”

On Monday night, Banham again took to Twitter as well to express appreciation for Bryant’s shout-out.

All told, with the tweet Monday night, three of Bryant’s last 10 tweets have been about Banham. Pretty crazy stuff.
