Cam Newton dons ‘I Win My Way’ shirt in defiant Instagram post (pic)

If anyone was expecting Cam Newton to back down and change his ways in light of the criticism levied upon the Carolina Panthers quarterback in light of his disappointing performance in Super Bowl 50, his controversial conduct after the game in his post-game press conference and his defiant talk in the days that followed: Think again.

Newton took to Instagram on Friday morning to thank Panthers fans for their support throughout the team’s run to the Super Bowl. But the quarterback went beyond expressing mere gratitude, as he opted to don a shirt that bore the message, “I Win My On It.” The fact that Newton opted to pose in front of a photograph of Muhammad Ali featuring the boxer’s comments about overcoming defeat presumably is meant to intentionally send along another message as well:

“Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even”

The thoughts expressed in the Instagram post also contained some semblance of defiance as well … not to mention some interesting syntax to boot.

This season has been an incredible journey and I want to thank PANTHERNAT1ON and all of the fans that iNSP1RED us to great achievements. iAMnøtPERFËCT and I will make mistakes but I will continue to work on improving each day trying toPERFECTallMYimPERFECT1ON. Suffice to say, Newton’s Instagram post will rally his many supporters while simultaneously providing fodder for his critics to condemn him. In other words, Newton’s post will elicit the same response as everything else he does.
