Jason Pierre-Paul shares post-surgery pic on Instagram (photo)
Jason Pierre-Paul is expected to have two offseason surgeries on his right hand left mangled by a Fourth of July fireworks accident last summer. He underwent the first one Monday and on Tuesday shared a post-procedure photo on Instagram.
The 27-year-old New York Giants defensive end struck a boxing pose to showcase a heavily wrapped right arm.
“I just want to say never give up,” Pierre-Paul wrote on Instagram. “Everything will be okay at the end. If it’s not okay that means it’s not the end.”
He shared a pre-surgery photograph on Monday and also issued the following message to his critics and doubters.
“Don’t judge me, you can’t handle half of what I’ve dealt with,” he wrote. “There’s a reason I do the things I do, there’s a reason I am who I am.”
Pierre-Paul’s ultimate return to the Giants late in the season was mostly an up-and-down affair rife with speculation, not to mention frustration from Giants brass. Despite a few embarrassing missteps, Pierre-Paul remained mostly positive throughout the ordeal.
How the entire protracted saga ultimately impacts his future with the Giants organization, however, remains to be seen as he becomes a free agent in March.
Upon his return to the field, Pierre-Paul amassed only 26 tackles and one sack in eight games, numbers far below those he put up pre-fireworks injury. Wherever he ends up, expect Pierre-Paul to have to prove his worth with a incentive-laden deal.
