Cam Newton has interesting reason for not naming son Cam Jr.
Cam Newton earlier this week finally announced the name of his infant son, who was born on Christmas Eve. It was an interesting name, to say the least, as the Carolina Panthers quarterback revealed his newborn son’s name to be Chosen.
Technically, the baby’s fully name is Chosen Sebastian Newton, but obviously most of the attention generated was caused by the unique first name.
Newton was asked why he decided to name his son Chosen, and part of his reasoning is that he didn’t want to burden his child with the pressure of being Cam Newton Jr.
“I wanted something that would be masculine, but yet unique,” he told reporters. “I’m not a big fan of juniors and every person that I’ve had this conversation when I say ‘I don’t want to have the pressure of him being a junior’, they reply, ‘What the hell do you think Chosen’s going to bring?’”
That’s a pretty valid point that Newton mentions, but being a junior arguably can be difficult. But Chosen presents a entirely different set of challenges, too. Although given the habit of celebrities giving their children unique (or downright bizarre) names — which in turn motivates regular folks to do the same — Chosen probably won’t even seem that odd as the little guy gets older.
