Brandon Marshall has great gag gift for Ryan Fitzpatrick
Brandon Marshall delighted reporters during an interview session Tuesday by showing off his delightful gag gift for New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick:
A copy of Keyshawn Johnson’s 1997 book, “Just Give Me the Damn Ball.”
Marshall was being asked after Tuesday’s practice if Fitzpatrick has exceeded expectations while leading the Jets to an 8-5 record.
“No, not yet,” he replied, via NJ.com.
That provided the wide receiver the opportunity to showcase his slightly in jest gift for his quarterback. While pulling a copy of Johnson’s book out of his locker, Marshall said, “I got him this book for Christmas.”
Of course, Marshall’s gift was in jest, at least mostly. After all, Marshall is tied for fifth in the NFL in both receptions (89) and yards (1,187) and sits tied for fourth in touchdown receptions (11).
But as wide receivers — in the mold of none other than Keyshawn Johnson — are wont to do, Marshall is left wanting more, and was even willing to throw some support towards fellow receiver Eric Decker’s way to boot.
“I probably could have 100 catches, [Decker] could probably have 75 catches, if [Fitzpatrick] didn’t hurt his thumb,” he said.
Marshall said the original plan for the book was to take a picture of himself and the other receivers holding a copy of the book and posting it to Instagram. But now that the cat is out of the bag, Marshall knows the jig is up.
“I have to give it to him right now before the news breaks,” he said.
