Johnny Manziel on footage of him partying: ‘Videos can be old’
Johnny Manziel refused to specifically discuss a recently surfacing video that purportedly shows him partying at a nightclub during the Cleveland Browns’ bye week, saying he hasn’t seen the footage while also insisting it may not document what it appears to show.
The Browns quarterback was asked about his latest off-the-field controversy while performing volunteer work at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank on Monday.
“You know there’s all kinds of people that come out,” he said, via Northeast Ohio Media Group’s Mary Kay Cabot. “Videos can be old. Videos can be all kinds of different things. So like I said, I’m not in a state to be able to speak on it because my focus has been on this today and what really matters in this game on Monday. So that’s where my focus has been. I did get a chance to relax. So I haven’t seen anything like that, and I’m not going to be able to speculate on it right now.”
The footage in question surfaced on Instagram shows Manziel holding a bottle of champagne and partying at a club on Friday night in Austin, Tex., which is being alleged to be “the second night of a back-to-back bender,” per a TMZ report.
When asked specifically about the footage — video that was pulled from Instagram on Monday — and whether it was old, Manziel refused to get into it.
“I haven’t seen it, so I can’t speak on it,” he said, adding, “I’ve been here for this (volunteer) event, and that’s really what I want to talk about, the things that are really important, not what I’m doing off the field.
Heading into the bye week, Manziel vowed not to be “a distraction to this team or be an embarrassment to the organization.”
When asked about his time off, Manziel said he took in the Ohio State-Michigan State game over the weekend and that he enjoyed himself.
“The bye week was great,” he said.
