Chicago Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler showcased his amazing new aquarium recently on an episode of the Animal Planet show, “Tanked,” and it truly is a sight to behold.
Holding 600 gallons and weighing about 6,000 pounds, the massive aquarium has the appearance of a boombox. But it doesn’t merely resemble a boombox, it actually has been outfitted with a wireless speaker system and plays music. It also has a custom bubbler to make it look like it’s a boombox equalizer.
“My fish gonna be bumpin’ here,” Butler says in the “Tanked” episode, via the Chicago Tribune.
The 9-by-10-foot aquarium can hold 50 fish — a nod to the Bulls’ upcoming 50th anniversary. And one of the fish is a Jordan’s tuskfish, an obvious nod to His Airness himself.
Butler told the Tribune he typically plays country music through his boombox aquarium, hardly a surprise given his crush on onetime country music star Taylor Swift. He has been known to annoy his Bulls teammates to no end with blasting Swift songs during pregame preparations.
“They need a little country music here and there, make them feel right at home. If you’re going to be a part of my household, you gotta like country music,” he said.
Butler signed a five-year, $95 million contract extension with the Bulls during the offseason, prompting him to purchase a Butler’s six-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot mansion for $4.3 million in September. It’s possible the aquarium is only one of many fanciful decorative items the star will purchase to spruce up his gigantic new home.
Butler isn’t the first pro athlete to be showcased on “Tanked.” Former NFL star Chad Ochocinco also was profiled during his playing days for his insane aquariums.
