92-year-old Trail Blazers fan gets wish, meets Damian Lillard (vid)
A 92-year-old Portland Trail Blazers superfan named Merle attended her first game on Thursday night. Her favorite player is Damian Lillard and she was holding out hope she would get the chance to meet the star player. Courtesy of a social media movement featuring a plea via hashtag, her wish came true.
A post on Twitter from Vital Life, a foundation “supports causes and resources that benefit the senior community,” initiated the movement. Featuring Merle donning Blazers gear and holding team-themed thundersticks, the post included the message, “Merle is a life-long Blazer fan is coming to her first game tonight! @TrailBlazerNews, #HelpMerleMeetLillard #RipCity.”

A social media groundswell ensued and exactly how much it helped Merle meet Lillard is unclear. But regardless of the movement’s impact, Merle did in fact meet her favorite NBA player.
And the Trail Blazers and Lillard put on a show for Merle as they whipped the Memphis Grizzlies by the score of 115-96 with Lillard scoring 27 points that included seven 3-pointers.

All told, Merle certainly had a night to remember.
