Derek Jeter finally announces engagement to Hannah Davis
Derek Jeter was reluctant to divulge any information regarding his rumored engagement to supermodel Hannah Davis when confronted with questions about the reports last week. But the retired New York Yankees icon finally announced that the two are in fact to be wed, but he did so on his terms … by revealing it in an offhand manner on The Players’ Tribune in an essay … about his dog.
Jeter didn’t come out so much and proudly proclaim that he is engaged to Davis. Instead, he subtly slipped it into a piece entitled, “Kane,” which is about his beloved Italian Mastiff that goes by that name.
“I had no idea what I was in for as a new dog owner,” Jeter writes in the essay for the sports website he fronts. “He was a Christmas gift last year from my fiancée, whose family had Mastiffs growing up. I’ve never owned a pet in my life.”Very sneaky, indeed. The fact that Davis was spotted wearing an engagement ring in recent days made it seem like the two were engaged, but Jeter’s comment certainly confirms it.
Jeter’s notoriously fierce protection of his privacy amazingly helped him keep his personal life — to a certain extent — out of the New York gossip pages throughout his Yankees career, so it should have come as no surprise he preferred to reveal his engagement in his own way..
Noting else is mentioned about his engagement in the piece, although Jeter does conclude the piece with the line, “I guess it’s possible to learn new tricks.” Granted, he was of course referring to his experiences as a dog owner, but the legendary bachelor could also be talking about being a soon-to-be married man as well.
