Cubs gave David Wright 3rd base from Wrigley Field after NLCS sweep (pic)
The Chicago Cubs may have just been unceremoniously swept out of the postseason courtesy of the New York Mets, the organization nevertheless displayed an admirable exhibition of sportsmanship following the team’s elimination, as the Cubs presented Mets captain David Wright with a pretty awesome keepsake to commemorate the victory.
Wright, in his 12th year and coming off a season in which he only played in 38 games due to spinal stenosis, is only making his second appearance in the postseason and soon will be playing in his first World Series.
In respect of that achievement, after the Mets eliminated the Cubs with an 8-3 NLCS Game 4 victory Wednesday night, the Cubs gave Wright the third base bag used during the game in which the Mets punched their ticket to the franchise’s first World Series berth since 2000.

Given how dejected, depressed and disappointed the entire Cubs organization must have felt in the immediate aftermath of getting swept out of the playoffs in their home ballpark, the gesture to the Mets captain certainly shows that the Cubs know how to lose graciously. While that may not be a source of comfort to the team nor the fans at this point, it’s certainly admirable.
