Tom Coughlin gets why Terry Collins hasn’t replied to all his texts
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin mentioned at the end of his session with the media Wednesday that he has in fact reached out to New York Mets skipper Terry Collins via a handful of text messages.
“I have texted him a couple of times to congratulate him on his progress,” Coughlin told the media.
If the notion of the 69-year-old Coughlin and 66-year-old Collins being text buddies wasn’t hilarious enough, one detail behind their communications certainly is amusing. The Giants head coach admitted that Mets skipper — who has led his team to a 3-0 NLCS lead over the Chicago Cubs and the brink of a World Series berth — has only replied to one of his several texts.
“Once. He’s a little busy,” Coughlin rightfully acknowledged.
It makes sense that Coughlin and Collins would be friendly with one another given they share the common bond of coaching in New York, one of the most pressure-packed environments in all of sport. But it’s still a hoot to imagine the nature of the duo’s text message exchanges when both of them aren’t quite so busy.
