Tom Brady: Darrelle Revis has ‘an intimate knowledge of how we do things’

Tom Brady conceded that the New York Jets might possess a possible advantage ahead of a showdown with the New England Patriots on Sunday due to how Darrelle Revis’ one-season stint with the team provided the cornerback with a keen insight of how the team goes about its business.

“He’s got, obviously, an intimate knowledge of how we do things and kind of the skill set of our players and our formations, and vice versa,” Brady said, via CSNNE.com. “I know how he likes to play things. His play style is very similar to what it’s always been.

“He’s a phenomenal player. Some of those players you play against where you go, ‘God, how did they know it was going to be this route, or that?’ Sometimes they just know by what they see, or their instincts, or feel, by the way the receiver walks to the line of scrimmage, the way the right tackle looks in his stance. I don’t know what he’s looking at, but he diagnoses plays and routes. He’s off to a great start this year.”

This will be the first time Revis will face the Patriots since re-signing with the Jets during the offseason. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick downplayed the notion that facing a former player can spell trouble in today’s NFL.

“What we know, we know. What they know, they know,” he said. “It comes up every week. There are always players on our team or other teams that have been in other organizations. We’ve played against them, or they’ve been with us, whatever it is.

“It’s really a weekly thing. Whatever we know about the player, we know about them. Whatever they know about us, they know about us. Honestly, it’s basically every week.”

To what extent Revis can help the Jets defense prepare for the Patriots offensive, if at all, remains to be seen. But it arguably can’t hurt. But as Brady noted, learning more about Revis last season could very well help the Patriots, too.
