Jake Arrieta meets young fan with his likeness shaved into head (pic)

A young Chicago Cubs fan let his scalp do the talking regarding who was his favorite player on the NLCS-bound ball club last week by having Jake Arrieta’s likeness shaved into his head.

It turns out his unique haircut paid dividends, as it earned him a meeting with the ace Tuesday after the Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 in Game 4 to seal the series victory.

The meet-and-greet likely was spawned by Arrieta taking notice of the kid’s cool ‘do, tweeting out, “Wow, that’s pretty awesome” upon hearing about it.

It’s certainly not the first time a fan has demonstrated his admiration for an athlete (or athletes) by going under the clippers (see here and here and here and here and here).

While it’s unlikely the young fan’s brush with greatness will inspire other fans to get the visages of Cubs players shaved into their heads, it goes to show the power of social media and how things going viral can take on a life of their own … and in turn help inspire very unique, awfully cool experiences.

Suffice to say, Wrigleyville is awash in rapturous joy over the beloved Cubbies punching their ticket for the NLCS. Perhaps it could be said that the entire city of Chicago is sharing in the celebratory atmosphere. Well, except for a few enclaves populated by pro-White Sox resistance groups, obviously. There’s no turning those folks, that’s for sure.
