John Wall donates $400,000 to D.C. child and family development center

Washington Wizards superstar John Wall recently made an appearance at Bright Beginnings, Inc., a “nationally accredited child and family development center that offers a bright start for homeless infants, toddlers and preschoolers and their families.” And while there, he donated a much-needed and greatly appreciated $400,000 to the center, which will be used to open a second center in the D.C. area.

“It is evident that John Wall is sensitive and concerned about the plight of homeless children in D.C., and he wants these children to succeed,” said Dr. Betty Jo Gaines, the organization’s executive director, in a statement, via ESPN.

Bright Beginnings, Inc. also announced the generous donation on its official Facebook page:

“This morning, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall surprised our organization and BBI Executive Director Dr. Betty Jo Gaines with a generous donation of $400,000. This phenomenal contribution will significantly impact the development of Bright Beginnings’ second child development center at 3418 4th Street SE in Ward 8.

“‘Support from individuals like Mr. Wall gives Bright Beginnings the encouragement to continue to provide comprehensive services for homeless children in the District of Columbia. It is evident that John Wall is sensitive and concerned about the plight of homeless children in DC and he wants these children to succeed.’ – Bright Beginnings Executive Director, Dr. Betty Jo Gaines.

“Proudly displayed at the new BBI center will be the John Wall, Wall of Achievement, highlighting the everyday moments of greatness Bright Beginnings students accomplish, in addition to the legacies left behind by high school and college graduates who were once BBI toddlers and preschoolers. Bright Beginnings will also name a classroom in Mr. Wall’s honor. The new Bright Beginnings child development center is scheduled to open its doors in 2017.”

And also acknowledged Wall’s generosity on Twitter:

While the perception seems to be that anytime news concerning a professional athlete’s actions away from the court tends to be unsavory in nature, one doesn’t have to look too hard to learn how much good a lot of athletes are doing in their respective communities. And this kind of heartfelt gesture isn’t uncommon for Wall, either.
