Report: Commercial mocking Deflategate panned by NFL Network (vid)
A commercial from a fantasy football website that pokes fun at the Deflategate scandal reportedly has been passed on by the NFL Network, according to the New York Daily News.
The website, Fantasy6.com, claims the NFL Network passed on the ad due to the “sensitive nature of the content.”
The commercial — featuring a pretty straightforward disclaimer at the beginning, “THE EVENTS DEPICTED IN THIS COMMERCIAL ARE FICTITIOUS,” — implies to feature New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, features a trainer knocking on a locked door labeled “Team Bathroom” before calling out to “Tom.”
After a back-and-forth in which the trainer asks if “Tom” is ready for the game and “Tom” responding, “I’ll be right out,” the Deflategate mockery — and Brady’s alleged involvement in — gets kicked up a notch.
“You’re not doing what I think you’re doing in there, are you?” the trainer says. “You’re going to get caught!”
It turns out “Tom” wasn’t doing anything nefarious involving the deflating of footballs. Instead, he’s using Fantasy6.com’s app to set his fantasy lineup.
The spot finishes with the trainer asking, “Shall I destroy this?” after “Tom” hands him the phone, which of course references Brady’s destruction of his phone during the Deflategate investigation.
While the NFL Network may have passed on the spot, it reportedly will be seen on the Spike and Comedy Central cable networks.
