Rex Ryan wants Bills fans to ‘make it miserable’ for Andrew Luck, Colts
Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan obviously is known for his fiery demeanor and willingness to do or say just about anything to help gain his players a psychological edge. So it shouldn’t be surprising that he’s enlisting the team’s fans to help make things tough for Andrew Luck and company when the Indianapolis Colts come to Ralph Wilson Stadium for a Week 1 showdown.
“What I’m taking comfort in is the fact that we’re playing at home,” Ryan said, via Syracuse.com. “The fans that I talk to are as excited about this opportunity, this game, as I am. Any team that comes in here, but particularly a team like the Colts, that it’s personal. It’s a personal challenge to our fans, our football team, our defense obviously, but our fans as well.”
Ryan utilized an oft-used moniker for a passionate fan base to help motivate them to be their loudest and most hostile to the visiting team, saying, “When we play at home, our fans are a part of our defense. They’re our 12th man, and that’s why I’m calling them out.”
The cheerleading head coach says he expects Bills fans to be downright nasty to Andrew Luck and the rest of the Colts high-powered offense.
“We have to make it miserable when people come in here,” Ryan said. “I’m calling our fans out. We need you. This guy is the No. 1 fantasy quarterback for this week. He’s the play. He’s the go-to-guy. Everybody wants him. But we have to make it challenging for him, and we will with our defense and all that. We’re going to make it as challenging as we possible, can but it can only be added by our fans. When our defense is on the field, I can’t wait to see our fans.”
A head coach imploring fans to be vocal ahead of a home game certainly is nothing new, but just like most things involving Rex Ryan, when he does something it seems so much more interesting. And as is often the case, expect Bills fans, along with his players, to take on Ryan’s personality.
