Kiké Hernandez may not have been in the lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ thrilling, 14-inning, 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night, but one could argue his impact on the game was integral … so long as one believes in the mystical powers of a “Rally Banana” suit. And best of all, the Dodgers can thank team president Andrew Friedman for the presence of Hernandez in the dugout while wearing the “a-peeling” attire.

The utility infielder, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a Grade-1 hamstring injury, was spotted by Friedman rocking the “Rally Banana” suit and instantly ordered him to set up shop in the dugout. Hernandez originally escaped to the clubhouse in the ninth inning to ” to like contain myself” over fears he may injure himself further in a post-walkoff win celebration. That’s when things got set into motion.

Hernandez reports that Friedman spotted him in the “Rally Banana” outfit and ordered him to return to the dugout.

“‘You’ve got to go down there,’” Hernandez said Friedman told him, per Inside the Dodgers. “I said, ‘I’ll get fined.’ He said, ‘I’ll pay your fine.’”

And that was that.

“Gotta do what the boss says,” Hernandez pointed out.

That’s logic in which it’s difficult to find fault, to be sure.

The “Rally Banana” started to become a bit for the Dodgers way back in May when Hernandez spotted one in the dugout during a tight game in the midst of a franchise-record 35-inning scoreless streak.

“I said, ‘I’m on the bench, I’ve got to help my team somehow, we’ve got to come up with something,'” Hernandez said. “So I look around and the first thing I see is a banana and I said, ‘This banana is going to be a rally banana.'”

A rally ensued, and the rest, as they say, is history.
