Bill O’Brien’s mom a bit taken aback by son’s cursing on ‘Hard Knocks’

Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien recently stated he was wary of having his parents — especially his mother, Anne — watch his performance in HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” mostly due to the fact they might witness some unsavory things coming out of his mouth as he coaches up his players.

“She’s not going to be very happy with me,” O’Brien said.

Despite his warning, Mama O’Brien, an Irish-Catholic, did in fact watch an episode of “Hard Knocks,” and suffice to say, she was a bit taken aback by her son’s potty mouth.

“To be honest with you, he doesn’t talk like that when he’s home at all,” Anne O’Brien told KHOU 11 News in a phone call after watching Tuesday’s episode. “Well, he’s never talked that way around me.”

And while she’s thrilled for her son, she wishes he wouldn’t use so much gosh-darned profanity, mostly in light of the fact that cameras were rolling and documenting every curse word coming out of the coach’s mouth.

“I think it’s one thing when you’re coaching the kids and involved in football and practices,” she said.

Despite the way in which her son spoke, O’Brien did say she enjoyed watching the program.

“Oh, I loved it. I thought it was great,” she said. “His openings when talking to the new kids and introducing them to Houston; I’m sure he works at that so that they do get to know one another.”

Still, O’Brien’s mother believes while he needn’t go to confession over his swearing, she nevertheless thinks her son should probably “just say a little prayer” to make amends.

That’s not too much to ask to make one’s mother happy.
