49ers rookie Mike Davis foots bill on $2,000 dinner tab (photo)
Veterans forcing a rookie to foot the tab on a pricey dinner out is a tried and true NFL tradition (here), a lesson San Francisco 49ers first-year running back Mike Davis learned all too well over the weekend.
Davis, drafted in the fourth round — 126th overall — in the 2015 NFL Draft, posted a photograph to Instagram showing how he was on the hook for an expensive meal outing, presumably with some of his teammates, as the bill indicated he owed $1,878.59 for the feast.
“Welcome to the NFL rookie,” Davis wrote on Instagram. Indeed.
Davis signed a four-year, $2.748 million deal — $466,781 guaranteed — with the Niners that came with a $117,195 signing bonus, per sportrac. With that in mind, it’s clear that Davis isn’t technically rolling in the dough by any stretch — especially when compared to the salaries of his dinner companions — so, the two-grand hit on the tab certainly stung him a bit more than it would have for the teammates who just ate on his dime.
Further, given a previous photograph he posted to Instagram documenting how his fridge was stocked almost solely with Lunchables — along with orange juice and what appears to be Hot Pockets — such extravagant expenditures related to eating clearly aren’t a frequent occurrence for Davis.
While spending upwards of $2,000 on one dinner outing is a bit out of line, Davis probably could do a bit better when doing his grocery shopping.
