Stephen Jackson charging $1K per table to attend his retirement party (pic)
After 14 seasons that came with a lot of thrills, a lot of highs and a low or two — including a championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003 and a 30-game suspension for his role in the Malice at the Palace — Stephen Jackson this week formally announced his retirement from the NBA. And he’s planning on going out in style by throwing himself one wild retirement party. Even better, everyone’s invited … but it will cost you to get inside … unless you’re a woman … to the tune of $1,000 per table.
Jackson, 37, who didn’t land a spot on an NBA roster last season, posted a promotional flier of sorts to his Instagram account to announce the party, which will be held at Atlanta’s Cream Ultra Lounge on Friday. Captain Jack indicates that some of his NBA pals will be in attendance, including Al Harrington, Jarrett Jack, Marquis Daniels, Josh Howard and Baron Davis, making for one heckuva hootenanny in Hot’Lanta.
It appears by Jackson’s comments that the reason he’s charging a grand a table to gain admittance to his retirement party is that he’s looking to make a little needed scratch on the side.
“Need your support. I showed a lot of love over the yrs. Let’s see if I get the love back. Need my real friends and family support,” Jackson writes in part on Instagram. “Tables only 1k. Hit me or hit numbers on the flyer for tables. Love and appreciate all the support threw my 13yr career. #Godspeed #HumbleHustler go out on Top and with a bang. #SSE Thanks in advance.”
As noted above and on the promotional materials, “Ladies Free All Nite,” which isn’t quite as bad as LeSean McCoy’s planned “women only” party in Philly and more of an example of what can typically occur at a standard nightclub.
In any event, it should be a rager. Just hit the ATM on the way and pull out at least a cool grand.
