Young Rays fan stops homer ball from drilling little girl with nifty grab (vid)
A young Tampa Bay Rays spared a little girl from possibly a serious injury when he stuck out his glove and snagged a home run ball mere moments before it likely would have drilled her.
It occurred during the eighth inning of Tampa’s 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Tropicana Field on Rays infielder Asdrubal Cabrera’s homer. With a trio of youngsters seated in the outfield between two adults — meaning the girl that he saved was perhaps his sister — the kid reaches out and snags the rapidly descending ball just before it was about to hit his seatmate.
Making his catch all the more impressive is that the little girl appeared to have no idea just how close she came to suffering harm.
Good job, kiddo. Whoever that little girl is, she truly is indebted to that kid, his quick reaction and nifty glove work. And it appears the youngster didn’t feel the need to do any trash talking about his slick fielding skills … unlike the young Indians fan who gave Miguel Cabrera grief after snagging a foul ball in the slugger’s presence.
