Young fan wades into water to retrieve Rickie Fowler’s ball (video)
A young golf fan — and apparently a huge Rickie Fowler supporter — got himself a bit soaked simply to retrieve a ball hit into the drink by the 26-year-old PGA Tour star.
Fowler hit an errant shot during second-round play at the Memorial Tournament on Friday. The youngster must have had a great view of Fowler’s ball plunging into the water and clearly had a bead on it. So into the water he waded, bending over and plucking the ball out of the hazard.
This kid was going to do whatever it took to get a ball from @RickieFowlerPGA. http://t.co/jA0l0vTfAn

Well done, kid. No word on whether or not Dick Fowler, P.I., Fowler’s mustachioed alter-ego, would approve of that kind of on-course behavior. Perhaps not.
Thankfully, given Muirfield Village Golf Course, the site of the Memorial, is in Dublin, Ohio, there was no risk of an alligator prowling the murky waters. Had this lad elected to go into the water to retrieve a ball in Florida. Well, that would have been a potentially dicey situation.
For what it’s worth, Fowler has carded even-par 72s on consecutive days and stands one-off the projected cut of 1-under and 12 strokes off the lead staked by David Lingmerth at the time of this post.
