Stephen Curry zings media over deadlines amid controversy with daughter
Basking in the afterglow of a thrilling 99-98 victory over the Houston Rockets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, Golden State Warriors teammates Stephen Curry were in a jovial mood. The frivolity of the environment allowed the comedy duo to razz the media over the swirling and arguably silly controversy surrounding how Curry brought along his two-year-old daughter Riley to the podium for his post-Game 1 press conference.
According to a tweet from Rosalyn Gold-Onwude of CSN Bay Area, Curry and Green playfully mocked and ridiculed the media upon the locker room was opened up to reporters.
“Hurry they have deadlines! Make your deadlines!” the players reportedly were heard loudly shouting.
The joke of course is how select members of the media bemoaned Curry’s decision to bring Riley to the presser, with some arguing it makes their jobs difficult as it interferes with their ability to get the quotes they need while keeping their deadlines in mind.
Curry said Thursday that he didn’t understand all the fuss. The NBA seemed to support Curry’s take when the league posted a video entitled, “Proud Father, Steph Curry,” in which the Warriors superstar expresses heartfelt thoughts about his little girl.
All in all, it’s a silly aside in what otherwise has been an entertaining postseason, despite the protestations of a few nattering nabobs of negativity.
The Warriors held serve at home and now head to Houston with 2-0 series lead. If the winning keeps up, it’s possible Curry and Green have a few more zingers at the media’s expense up their sleeves.
