Rangers try to clear their heads ahead of Game 4 by seeing ‘Entourage’
After winning Game 1 at home in its Eastern Conference Finals series with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the New York Rangers have stumbled, getting blown out at home 6-2 on Monday and then suffering a heartbreaking 6-5 overtime loss at Amalie Arena on Wednesday.
With a dire need to get things back on track, clear heads and get their collective mojo on the upswing before Friday’s Game 4 with the hope the squad can avoid a 3-1 series deficit, Rick Nash devised a plan where the team could get away from hockey for a spell and enjoy a team-building exercise while also getting in some relaxation.
And how did Nash think the best way to accomplish those goals? By attending a private screening of “Entourage,” which apparently is some movie based upon some HBO series that some people have seen.
The players took a trip on Thursday to a movie theater in St. Petersburg by their hotel and watched the flick. According to center Derick Brassard, it was exactly what the players needed.
“We watched a movie as a team, we had some good times, so I think today is a new day and we’re pretty excited for tonight,” he said, via the New York Post. “We had some good times [Thursday]. We had a team dinner, and you know, we really feel pretty about ourselves winning this game tonight and going back in our building.
“We just have to forget about the last two games,” Brassard continued. “We’ve played some good hockey all season long. We’re not panicking, we’re a confident group. We just have to go out there tonight and execute.”
Head coach Alain Vigneault thought it was a great idea as well.
“We had a 6:00 meeting, and from there they had a team supper and they went to see a movie together,” he said. “All good.”
All good, indeed. Although it’s hard to say whether the movie itself could be characterized in the same way.
