Max Scherzer explains logic behind celebratory chocolate syrup showers
A handful of times over the past few weeks, Max Scherzer has arrived upon the scene during a heroic Washington Nationals player’s post-game interview with a bottle of chocolate syrup in hand, with which he douses his teammate in an act of sticky-sweet celebration.
The pitcher recently explained his reasoning behind using chocolate syrup, given the bevy of other available options that are utilized by other teams: a chilly dousing with Gatorade, a shaving cream pie to face … what have you.
A sampling of Scherzer’s antics of late.
Makes sense … in a way … not to mention tasty, albeit messy.
But, as teammate Kevin Millar inquired, what if the game hero on a particular day prefers some other ice cream topping or flavor?
“What if a guy, let’s say, has different taste buds?” Kevin Millar asked Scherzer, via D.C. Sports Bog. “What if someone’s into butterscotch, or maybe a strawberry topping? With cream? Can we change things up a little bit?”
Scherzer ain’t having any of it.
“You know, I’m not thinking if you like butterscotch or anything like that … because I really, really like chocolate,” he said. “So, you’re going to have to deal with it, and whatever teammate walks it off again is going to have to deal with the chocolate sauce.”
Further, some folks have a preference for a particular brand of chocolate syrup. Is Scherzer taking that into account as well?
Yeah, probably not.
