Malcolm Brown: I’m the best player the Patriots have ever drafted
The New England Patriots selected defensive tackle Malcolm Brown out of the University of Texas with the 32nd pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. While it obviously remains to be seen how much of an impact he will have with the Patriots this season and what kind of player he will develop into over his career, one thing is for certain: The kid believes he’s a pretty talented football player … and he isn’t lacking in hubris, either.
Brown made it abundantly clear during a conference call on Friday with reporters that he has complete faith that he’ll be successful at the next level. Not only that, without even putting his hand in the dirt at a practice, let alone an actual game, Brown believes the Patriots will not regret selecting him. Not in the least.
When asked if he had a message for Patriots fans, Brown dropped this bombshell, via CSNNE.
“Ya’ll about to get the best player ya’ll have ever drafted so just be ready for when I touch the field,” he proclaimed.
If that sounds familiar to Patriots fans, it might be because another pick from the team’s past made a boast similar in tone when he was drafted way back when: Tom Brady.
The story goes that upon getting drafted at No. 199 in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady made the following statement to Patriots owner Robert Kraft: “I’m the best decision this organization has ever made.”
A pretty accurate prediction, indeed. Whether Brown can emulate Brady and make good on his bold proclamation is another story.
An All-American last season, Brown is 6 feet 2 inches, 319 pounds and seemingly has all the physical tools needed to become a productive NFL player. And if he doesn’t, he can rely on that overabundance of brash confidence to at least convince people otherwise.
