Alexander Ovechkin to Henrik Lundqvist after goal: ‘All series, baby’ (video)

The Washington Capitals pulled off an absolute stunner on Thursday night, beating the New York Rangers 2-1 in Game 1 of the teams’ Eastern Conference semifinal series courtesy of a Joel Ward goal with 1.3 seconds remaining in the third period.

If losing a game in such devastating fashion doesn’t cause enough psychic damage on its own, how Alexander Ovechkin engaged in psychological warfare with Henrik Lundqvist surely will at least have the Rangers netminder wondering if the Capitals superstar already is getting into his head.

After scoring a first period goal, Ovechkin skated around the Rangers net about 40 seconds after staking the Caps a 1-0 lead. He wasn’t merely keeping his legs loose, either. NBC Sports microphones could pick up Ovechkin lowering the smack talk boom by issuing Lundqvist the following warning: “All series, baby. All series. All series.”

Message delivered.

First the goal, an absolute laser from above the faceoff circle.

And then Ovechkin’s brilliant post-goal commentary.

Talk about some snarky gamesmanship. But that’s how Ovechkin rolls and he usually is at his best when he’s fired up and fully engaged.

Ovechkin also assisted on Ward’s horn-beating game-winner, so he already has two points in the series only one game in. He now has three goals and four assists in eight playoff games this postseason. Lundqvist better hope Ovi doesn’t make good on his trash-talking promise or it could be a long series for the Rangers.
