David Ortiz yells ‘rich b–ch’ at Jacoby Ellsbury over Yankees megadeal (vid)
David Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury were Boston Red Sox teammates for seven seasons, so odds are good the two enjoyed a good rapport over the years. But that does not mean Big Papi isn’t willing to sling some good-natured smack talk at his former teammate.
During Sunday night’s tilt between the AL East rivals, Ortiz was caught on live television delivering some vulgar trash talk at Ellsbury. With Ortiz on second base, an on-field microphone picked up Ortiz yelling, “Hey, rich b–ch” at Ellsbury out in center field.
The lighthearted jest of course referenced the massive, seven-year, $153 million deal that lured the outfielder away from Beantown ahead of the 2014 season and into the ranks of the so-called “Evil Empire,” leading several spelling-challenged Sox fan to erroneously rip Ellsbury by comically referring to him as a “trader” on social media.
It does merit pointing out that Ellsbury’s Yankees were up big-time on the BoSox at the time of Ortiz’s somewhat profane slam, leading the game 7-0 on the way to a 14-4 throttling. So, while Big Papi managed to deliver a clever zing at the expense of his ex-teammate, Ellsbury got the last laugh on this day.
