Nick Foles ‘wasn’t even thinking about’ being traded by Eagles
Like most of folks who follow the NFL, Nick Foles indicates he was blindsided when the Philadelphia Eagles executed a trade that shipped him to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for Sam Bradford.
Now that some time has passed since the surprising deal since he was left reeling while trying to wrap his brain around exactly what happened, Foles has had a chance to let everything that transpired soak in. The new Rams quarterback shared during an interview with MMQB’s Jenny Vrentas exactly what the trade and the craziness that followed was like from his perspective.
Foles claims in the interview that the first inkling that he was going to be traded came the “second I got a phone call, and Chip Kelly told me I was traded.” It’s safe to say for his response Foles had no clue he was on the trading block, much less that he was about to be dealt.
“Anything is possible in the NFL, but in my mind, I wasn’t even thinking about it,” Foles continued. “In my mind, I was going to be in Philadelphia, and be the quarterback, and be leading the guys I have been leading for several years, because that’s how I think.
The quarterback then laid out what the 24-hour period after learning he was traded was like, saying he went through “a lot of emotions” ranging from being disappointed by cutting ties with the only team he had known to being excited at a “great opportunity with a new team.”
Foles goes on in the interview to say how he believes he can be a franchise quarterback with the Rams, how it’s going to be “different” working in a different system and how he doesn’t necessarily feel any pressure to prove he can perform outside of Eagles head coach’s Chip Kelly’s system. He also disputes reports that he indicated he was “overjoyed” to learn he was leaving Philly.
