Henrik Stenson cracks Viagra joke when asked about PEDs in golf

Henrik Stenson on Wednesday was asked about the PGA Tour’s drug testing program at the Valspar Championship. Instead of providing a reasoned, thoughtful quote, the 38-year-old Swede opted to crack a pretty funny joke about the only PED golfers would really need.

Stenson was asked by a reporter, “If you were running the program, would you be more inclined to test you after winning Deutsche Bank or the following week?”

And Stenson couldn’t help himself.

“It depends on what you’re looking for and I mean there’s rules for everything that’s on those lists but, again, I’ve said that before. Long and straight. Viagra might be the only one that’s going to get you anywhere,” Stenson observed, via Golf Digest. “I don’t know. What else? I don’t know what else you take for performance enhancement in golf. I don’t know.”

Fair enough. And well played.

Stenson likely was asked about the Tour’s drug testing program in light of some fiery comments made by John Daly, who bitterly said in a radio interview that he gets tested a lot. He also called the entire anti-doping dog and pony show in golf as “a big joke” and the “the biggest bulls–t.”

Perhaps the long-driving Daly would have been better served by following Stenson’s lead and cracking an ExtenZe quip.
