R.A. Dickey takes Daniel Norris’ home, a VW van, for a joyride (photos)
The unique lifestyle of Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Daniel Norris has been extensively profiled heading into spring training, and for good reason. After all, has there ever been another major league player who has taken up a permanent residence in a van?
The 21-year-old Norris, a Tennessee native, is a wanderer and enjoys a nomadic existence afforded by living out of his old van, a 1978 Volkswagen Westfalia he has nicknamed “Shaggy.” The pursuit of that kind of free-living lifestyle of course is made much easier by not being tied down by a house, an apartment, what have you.
While there are some perks associated in living out of one’s van — Norris apparently lives on only $800 per month despite signing a $2 million signing bonus — there is probably one consequence of having a mobile homestead for which Norris was not prepared: Having one of his teammates steal his beloved van and take it out for a joy ride.
But that’s exactly what fellow Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey did on Thursday. Somehow pilfering the keys to Norris’ ride and taking it for a spin, even driving it out on the field.
Stole Daniel norris' van and drove it on the infield…. Smooth ride but I need some power steering. #vwvansaresweet pic.twitter.com/9Xn7NjIhhg

Norris seemed to have a pretty good sense of humor about Dickey commandeering his beloved van, too.
Fahrvergnügen, man. Fahrvergnügen.
