Royals affiliate unveils hot dog/bacon gutbomb on Krispy Kreme ‘bun’ (pic)
Move over, Churro Dog. There’s a new leader in the clubhouse for craziest culinary concession item that will be available this summer at America’s ballparks.
Outrageous ballpark fare obviously is not limited to the major league level, as evidenced by a brand new monstrosity being rolled out by a minor league team affiliated with the Kansas City Royals.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks, Kansas City’s single-A affiliate based in Delaware, has introduced an absolutely gluttonous creation: A hot dog buried in bacon and slathered with raspberry jam all slapped together in a bun made out of a split Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut.
It’s worth noting that the Blue Rocks are not the first baseball outfit to come up with an item using Krispy Kreme in ways the doughnut gods never intended. The Gateway Grizzlies previously introduced a Krispy Kreme Burger, which looks equally scary-delicious.
The team currently is referring to the gutbomb of a concession item the “Krispy Kreme Donut Dog,” but as most will agree, the name lacks the pizazz worthy of such an awe-inspiring and artery-clogging, um, hot dog. So the Blue Rocks have started a contest where fans can suggest their own names for the team’s culinary creation.
The winner of the “Glazed Ticket,” as it is referred on the team’s site, will get the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Night, receive four tickets to the game, a commemorative plaque celebrating how he or she was the person who named the item and finally, $50 in “stadium bucks,” “(to use towards Donut Dogs!)” the contest page reads.
There’s no word on how much the currently named Krispy Kreme Donut Dog will cost, but if one person — or ever four, for that matter — spent the entire 50 bucks on that particular concession item, well, it’s a shame that the Blue Rocks don’t offer in-stadium angioplasties. Real money, though, would have to be used for that treatment … since all the stadium bucks awarded for winning the contest already were spent on … whatever it is that this thing will be named.
