Manny Pacquiao: Ronda Rousey would beat Floyd Mayweather in fight (video)

While it was nothing more than some trumped-up smack talk — or not — Manny Pacquiao said that it his opinion that Ronda Rousey, the baddest female MMA fighter in all the land, could beat Floyd Mayweather in an MMA fight.

Pacquiao was making an appearance on ESPN’s “His & Hers” when the topic of Bob Arum giving Rousey his only free ticket to the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout on May 2 in Vegas, which led into this exchange between the boxer and co-host Jemele Hill.

“Do you think [Rousey] could beat Floyd in MMA?” Hill asked.

“I believe so. She’s strong, and she’s strong enough to beat Floyd Mayweather in MMA,” Pacquiao responded.

Shots fired!

Actually, not really. It’s hardly a shocking opinion, given the nuances of an MMA fight, something in which Mayweather has no training. Pacquiao probably would have admitted that he too would lose to Rousey under the same circumstances.

In fact, Rousey herself even speculated that she could take down Mayweather in the Octagon.

“I wouldn’t even stand up, I wouldn’t even be anywhere near him. I would just do like a little army crawl over there, and he would have to run away,” the UFC women’s bantamweight champ said during a recent interview. “I would just be skittering after him like the one dude in Bloodsport that was doing the whole monkey crawl fight system. I would do that. I would just bear crawl over there too low for him to hit me, and I’d tackle him down…. I spent a lot of time [on the ground], and I doubt that he does.UFC women’s bantamweight champ.”

For what it’s worth, given that she actually will be ringside for the bout, Rousey picked Pacquiao to win the so-called “Fight of the Century.”

“Pacquiao has been very, very nice to me so I’m going to root for him,” she said about Pacquiao.

It probably didn’t help Mayweather’s cause that once, when asked about her, the boxer said, “I don’t know who he is.” Ouch.

With all that in mind, perhaps there should be no doubt that Rousey could beat Mayweather with the same cruel efficiency as she dispatched Cat Zingano.
