Rory McIlroy completely loses it, helicopters club into water (video)
To say that Rory McIlroy is having a rough go of it in his second round on Friday at the WGC – Cadillac Championship would be a huge understatement. The 25-year-old finally let his frustration get the best of him on the eighth hole at Trump National Doral.
After hitting a shot presumably not to his liking — another understatement — McIlroy turned and helicopter-tossed an iron right into some water running up the left side of the fairway.
Man, Rory really winged that club, didn’t he? He’s lucky he didn’t tear his rotator cuff with that toss.
The impromptu meltdown club toss was preceded by a birdie. McIlroy went on to score a bogey-6 on the hole, so things could have been worse, although being one club short in his bag is having its consequences.
Rory McIlroy using a 5-iron on the ninth tee. Sort of choosing by process of elimination now.

After an up-and-down first round Thursday where McIlroy was all over the place while carding a one-over 73, he has been similarly erratic in his second round as well, although he did manage to make the turn at even par for the round … but also missing one club.
