Diamondbacks unveil dynamite new ballpark fare, the Churro Dog (photo)

The Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday unveiled what arguably is the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to the best new culinary treat set to be unleashed on baseball fans in ballparks all across the land.

Behold, the most tempting — and probably tastiest concession item introduced ahead of the 2015 MLB season: The Churro Dog.

Conceived by Diamondbacks team chef Michael Snoke, the Churro Dog is “a warm cinnamon churro sitting inside a Long John chocolate-glazed donut, which is then topped with frozen yogurt, caramel and chocolate sauces,” per a report from ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

Calorie count? Only 1,117. Not great, but not too shabby, either. And the price? $8.50. Again, not too shabby, so far as the dramatically inflated monetary conversion rate generally applied to foodstuffs at stadiums.

“We’ve found that desserts work really well in the heat we have here,” Diamondbacks¬†president and CEO Derrick Hall told ESPN. An observation that makes complete sense although it wouldn’t have too be stifling hot in order to enjoy one of these bad boys.

Once he perfected the recipe, Chef Snoke introduced the item to a focus group consisting of some very lucky folks. Suffice to say, the Churro Dog was a big hit.

Rovell notes in his report that the decision to use frozen yogurt instead of ice cream was reached based upon two lines of reasoning.

“Chef Snoke thought it tasted better than ice cream,” Hall added. “Plus, using frozen yogurt is easier to execute on the spot at the game.”

Whatever. Frozen yogurt, ice cream, what’s the difference when it comes sitting upon warm cinnamon churro nestled inside a Long John chocolate-glazed donut? I mean, seriously.

In any event, the Diamondbacks routinely are on the forefront (although the Texas Rangers are right there with them) when it comes to introducing wild and wacky — and mouth-watering — stadium food fare. Just last year the team rolled out — a hand truck perhaps was considered — the D-bat Dog, and 18-inch-long corn dog stuffed with cheese and bacon. Yum. Nothing like a Churro Dog to cleanse the palate after one of those bad boys. All that one would need after that feast would be a defibrillator. And that aforementioned hand truck.
