Moo Goo Gai Panda: Pablo Sandoval ate well during the offseason (photo)
With Boston Red Sox’s spring training not slated to open until Friday and position players not expected to report until Feb. 24, to his credit, Pablo Sandoval showed up way ahead of schedule to begin preparations for the 2015 MLB season with his new team, the Boston Red Sox. Sandoval reportedly said he is “very excited” to show his new team, teammates and fans that he is worth every penny of the five-year, $100 million contract he signed with the BoSox in the offseason.
Evidently, given his appearance, he probably feels very satiated as well.
A photograph posted to Twitter by Boston.com’s Steve Silva indicates that Sandoval has been eating well since wining the World Series with the San Francisco Giants last October. Or, at the very least, the always-portly third baseman hasn’t altered his diet one bit since switching squads.
“Safe to say Pablo Sandoval didn’t miss too many meals this offseason [cough],” Silva writes. And how.
Sandoval was listed last season at a svelte 245 pounds. He is at least that heading into spring training. But what is so confusing about his typical and considerable girth is how surprisingly spry Sandoval remains as an infielder. But that’s Kung Fu Panda for you. He always defies convention … and never declines seconds. Evidently. In fact, “Moo Goo Gai Panda” should be his new nickname. It’s … fitting … unlike his t-shirt.
