NBA’s snappiest dressers to compete in fashion show on All-Star Weekend

The NBA will dip its metaphorical toe into the highfalutin fashion world during 2015 All-Star Weekend courtesy of a competition of sorts pitting the league’s sharpest, slickest and snappiest dressers in a runway rundown.

The fashion show, dubbed, “NBA All-Star All-Style,” is produced by LeBron James’ Springhill Production Company and will take place at New York’s Hammerstein Theater on Friday night. The outcome of the somewhat bizarre concept will air Saturday evening on TNT as part of the network’s coverage of festivities surrounding All-Star Weekend.

According to an AP report (via NBA.com), the competition reportedly will feature James Harden, DeMarcus Cousins and Klay Thompson, along with other NBA stars as well as models and entertainers. It will include three rounds, 1) Dressing for the boardroom; 2) A night out; and 3) Attire worn to the game and will begin with eight players. Those first eight will be whittled down to four and then two for what presumably will be a thrilling final runway strut.

Perhaps best of all — and what arguably will make the event a must-see affair, is that Charles Barkley will be one of the judges. There’s no telling what Sir Charles will have to say about the event, much less the outrageous things he might say about how the NBA superstars are dressed. Barkley’s TNT cohort Kenny Smith and WNBA star Elena Delle Donne comprise the rest of the judging panel.

Given how NBA stars often make as much news with their wardrobes away from the court as they do on it — Russell Westbrook and Dwyane Wade — not to mention Amar’e Stoudemire as well as one of the fashion show’s “contestants,” James Harden — immediately come to mind, albeit for perhaps the wrong reasons — this foray into high fashion by way of NBA stars strutting their stuff before they do their little turns on the catwalk (yeah, the catwalk) should make for an entertaining event, if not an awkward one.
